The Radiolink scheme

Swanage Radiolink is licenced by Swanage Chamber of Trade; it is a membership scheme which proportionately has one of the highest levels of participation in Dorset.

The idea is to provide retailers with a means of communicating urgent information or important messages - the principle role is quickly share information between radio-holders to help in the prevention of crime such as shoplifting, frauds and public disorder matters as well as being used to assist with other incidents including locating lost children. It is linked with the local Police station as an additional support network - however, it should not be used to replace the normal methods of emergency response.

Regular meetings are held with the Police, discussing current crime trends and concerns. As well as the retail premises on Radiolink, the Town Council also has access the system. They have their own radio network, so if information is passed to them from the town, they provide additional monitoring in locations such as car parks.

Radios can either be hired for an indefinite period, or bought. There is a loan radio available so individuals can try the system to see if it is appropriate to their needs. Any one interested in the scheme, please contact Swanage Police Station 01929 422004 for futher details.

To Rent a radio and accessories is £25.00 per year + VAT. There is no set period of rental.

• Purchase prices are as follows:
• Radio with Battery £190.00 + VAT.
• Spare Battery £33.00 + VAT.
• Rapid Charger £35.00 + VAT.
• Leather Case £12.00 + VAT.

Added to this is a cost of £5.00 per month which goes towards 'Airtime' and maintenance of the base equipment. The supplier is happy to take this added payment in instalments of the customer’s preference. Two six monthly payments of £30.00 is the common local practice. Please note that this additional £5.00 charge does not apply to rental prices.

Users are expected to be members of the Chamber of Trade, which costs £25.00 per annum.

This money is used to purchase the Radio Licence, which is held by the Chamber.
