Swanage is a coastal town with a population of some 10,000 inhabitants which grows considerably during the summer season. It lies at the eastern edge of the peninsular with a wide bay ideal for safe bathing - it has recently been improved with new groynes and a beach restoration project. The bay has been awarded European Blue Flag status regularly and the town gained a Silver award for Britain in Bloom 2006.

Swanage hosts a number of events throughout the year which brings a boost to the local economy:

The spectacular hills and natural environment in the area include open downland at Arne peninsular, cliffs from Durlston to Durdle Door and heathland at Studland.
